For those seeking a more robust experience, the trail to the summit is a rewarding challenge. Spanning approximately 7 km one way, it takes about 3 hours to reach the top.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to the majestic beauty of the Colombian Andes, with the towering rock formations of the Farallones de Sutatausa standing 3100 meters above sea level. These imposing natural structures offer a soul-stirring backdrop to your journey.

Rock Climbing and Spelunking Delights

Rock climbing enthusiasts will also find their haven here. The Farallones offer numerous spots ideal for climbers of various skill levels. The area’s natural rock formations provide a unique and challenging environment for practicing and honing climbing skills.

Apart from hiking and rock climbing, the Farallones are a haven for spelunkers. The area’s caves, formed over millennia, present a thrilling experience for those interested in exploring underground wonders.

Exploring Diverse Trails

Another highlight of visiting the Farallones is the opportunity to traverse different paths to the summit.

The trails are color-coded for convenience. The red trail is the most challenging, offering a steep climb for those seeking an adrenaline rush. For a more leisurely ascent, the green trail is your best bet, while the blue trail strikes a balance between challenge and enjoyment.

How to get there

The proximity of the Farallones to the city makes it an easily accessible destination for a day trip. As you approach the area, a stop at the Quinta la Fagua corner store is recommended. Here, interacting with the friendly locals can give you insights into the best parking spots and maybe even some lesser-known trails to explore. Their warm hospitality and the store’s quaint charm add to the experience of your visit.

The Sutatausa Bluffs: A Must-Visit

The Sutatausa Bluffs, part of the Farallones, are another attraction not to be missed. With numerous trails leading to the top, hikers can choose their adventure. Two well-known hikes start near Don Antonio’s Store. One trail is right in front of the store, well-developed yet steep, while the other begins on an unpaved road to the right of the store, leading to a stone trail that ascends to the summit.
